We drove to
Carnarvon we set up in a great caravan park.
We went fishing at Quobba and off the bridge. At the bridge I caught one
Barramundi and a perch, Ryley caught a flathead and a bream. At Quobba I caught about 20 fish and Ryley
caught and edible snapper. We also went
snorkelling at Quobba and there was a lot of fish. We also met up with our friends Sharon and
David and all their family. We had a
dinner and the chef made dinosaur chicken nuggets. We had a lot of fun at Carnarvon and they had
a huge playground in town. Next we’re
off to Coral Bay.
When we got
to Coral Bay there was a lot of reefs there but we couldn’t go snorkelling much
the first day because there was a massive storm. Once the storm had passed Ryley and I went
snorkelling and we saw heaps of spangled emperor and parrot fish. I also found some year seven kids and they
went on the whizzy-dizz and they were all screaming, it was really funny when
they got off because they all fell over.
The next
day we went fishing in Dad’s boat and we caught four spangled Emperor, I caught
the biggest and the smallest. I was
really excited when I was catching them, I was nearly crying because it gave me
a shock. They were really good fighting
fish and they nearly pulled me out of the boat, the biggest one was 62cm. Ryley caught a massive toad fish. I was the Emperor King because every time I
grabbed the rod I’d hook up, even if it was Dad or Ryley’s’ rod that I was
holding. After all our lines broke we
decided to go home and we realised that our motor had pooed itself so we had to
paddle in. While we were paddling in we
saw heaps of spangled Emperor near our boat which made us really annoyed because
we had no tackle left to catch them. I
wasn’t scared when we were stuck in the middle of the ocean, I don’t know why,
I just wasn’t scared. Eventually we got
towed back to shore by a bigger boat who had also broken one of their motors.
Next we
headed to Exmouth. We were driving in to
Exmouth and dad pulled up at a unit and Dad said, “we’re here”. We said,
“WHAAAT?” We went inside and it had a
TV, a bedroom for Ryley and I to share, it was two story and we were
upstairs. I was able to let my pet
turtle toy hatch because there was room in the house, our caravan is really
small so there’s no space for extra things like toys. Ryley and I went to the town water park
several times where we made up a game.
We went on a turtle hatching hunt we saw a
little baby green sea turtle and it was still in its shell. There was a grab just about to eat it so we
scared the crab off and we helped the baby turtle get into the water and swim
off. We picked up the turtle in a scoop
of sand and took him down to the water, we put him down and a wave came up and
swept him off along with two other baby turtles. It made me feel happy because I just saved a
green sea turtle and hopefully can reach maturity. Perhaps he’ll be the one in a thousand to
reach maturity.
At Exmouth
we were lucky enough to get to go on a fishing charter while Mum and Tamsyn got
to swim with Whale Sharks. I only caught
Emperor and one Cod while Ryley caught a Cobia which is a pelagic fish and a huge
Rankin Cod. The people on the boat were
really nice and our friend Denis caught a huge Sambo Shark.
We did
another tour that was snorkelling and cruising in a glass bottom boat. I loved the glass bottom boat because I saw
heaps of Parrot fish and Coral Trout.
When we got to dive I took off and straight away I saw a Puffer fish. Later in the dive I saw a Red Emperor which
is a really rare fish. My least
favourite thing to see where the three big stingrays because they looked really
big and scary. I loved the snorkelling
and glass bottom boat so much and we even got a free DVD with the tour.
Easter
Bunny came and left all the Easter eggs hidden in the van so we got to do an Easter
egg hunt in the caravan then we packed up and headed to Karajini National Park.
AT Karajini
we did a lot of awesome walks and we saw lots of fish. My favourite walk was Dale Gorge, it took us
six hours. It took us so long because we
stopped at lots of swimming holes, one we stayed at for almost an hour. One of the pools was full of leaches but it
had a warm waterfall. I swam across the
deep pool and had a shower under the waterfall then Mum and I jumped off into
the pool. I loved Karajini so much, I
hope I can go back there when I’m older.
Now we’re
heading to Eighty Mile Beach.
