Ryley 6
From Karajini
we headed to Pardoo. Pardoo was a
really nice place but there wasn’t much there. Taj and I spent our time in the pool with Dad. Then we headed to 80 Mile which was really
boring, we went fishing and I caught 1 threadfin salmon.
Our next
destination was Barn Hill which we all enjoyed.
There were green tree frogs everywhere. We went fishing a bit and had
some great fun swimming in the beach. We took the boat out and Dad got sea sick
which was hilarious. Fishing at Barn Hill
was good, Taj caught 5 perch, I caught 5 perch and 1 trevally and Dad caught 2
cod.
After Barn
Hill we headed to Broome (which is easily my favourite place in Australia). In Broome
we went to a really bad bird park where all the birds were nearly dead. After
that we got to go to Mango Place and have mango smoothies. I spent most my time at Broome on the wharf,
I spent a least two hours every day on the wharf catching the best fish.
We also went up to Cape Leveque and went
spearfishing with Bundy and his children and nephews. We also got to make and
keep our own spears. I went fishing at Cape
Leveque and caught a shark. While I was
pulling it in Taj was swimming and I wound it right up to him before he noticed
it was there and he got a big fright.
After we had our stay at Cape Leveque we
headed back to Broome and Dad (as usual) would drop me off by myself on the
wharf for a fish every day. Two of the
days I spent 7 hours straight on the wharf
There was so much stuff to see off the wharf like sharks, rays, sea
snakes, fish, turtles, crabs, dugongs and much more. I made heaps of mates on the wharf and had a
great time. I also hooked a baby hammer
head but it got off and I had a golden trevally that was around a metre but we
couldn’t lift it up the 15 metre high wharf.
During WW2
planes were being used to transport Dutch refugees to safety in Broome. They would land on the main beach of Broome
every day. On the 3rd of
March 1942 the Catalina’s landed in the bay as usual but then the Japenese
opened fire on the civilian planes killing most on board. The wrecks are still at the bottom of Roebuck
bay. We were lucky enough to be there on
a very low tide and could walk out to them.
In total 18 planes were shot down in Broome. We also attended the dawn service which was
really good.
We swam in the pool a lot at our caravan park,
they had a huge pool and great facilities.
There was a mini golf course right near the caravan park so in the morning
we would play a lot of mini golf.
Fishing in
Broome was the best! There was fish everywhere.
There was also groupers that where around 100 kilos that would take all your
fish and eat little sharks that would swim by.
One of my mates caught a baby 45kg grouper, it was massive. We all
caught countless amounts of fish but I got a few really big ones on lures, like
3 big queen fish. My biggest was 83 cm
and 2 trevally, one golden and one GT. My
smallest trevally was 75 cm. Broome was the best and I can’t wait to go there
with Grumps one time because he would love it.
