At 80 Mile
Beach there were heaps of animals but there wasn’t much to do there other than
fishing and go looking for lace monitors.
We went to the beach and had hermit crab races. There were heaps of shells on the beach. I enjoyed
it but not greatly.
Barn Hill
was about a million times better than 80 mile because there was more things to
do than just go fishing. I patted lots
of dogs, caught tree frogs, caught fish and put them into rock pools. At night-time there were huge bugs so Ryley
and I caught heaps of bugs then we caught heaps of frogs and put them together
so the frogs had a feast. We went out in
the boat fishing and Dad got sick so Ryley and I played in the water and then
Ryley said, “if you see vomit coming swim away really fast”. It was so funny, we laughed for ages. At night when I had a shower I had all these
little frogs perving on me because there was no roof on the toilets. It was awesome because even when you went to
the toilet you could see all the stars, I’m glad it didn’t rain though. There were Bridled terns and parrots sticking
out of their holes squawking at you. I
loved Barn Hill and I can’t wait to go there again.
At Broome we set up at a nice place and had a relax for a
few days. We went to the 12 Mile Bird
Park and the Mango House. I loved the
bird farm, they had a very angry swan that kept try to peck us. They had Silkies there that were very fluffy
and they even had chicks. I loved seeing
all of the pretty birds. It was so hot
at the bird park so we went to the Mango House to get a mango slushy. The slushy was great, it had a real mango
taste. When we got back we had dinner
with Harry and Ange, we were going to have a BBQ but Ryley ended up catching a
huge Queen fish for everyone to share so we ended up cooking that on the
BBQ. It was delicious.
After some more relaxing beside the pool we left the caravan
in Broome and drove to Cape Leveque. We
stayed at the caravan park. It had
beautiful beaches and great look outs.
We stayed in a hut with nothing but mozzi nets for protection. Cape Leveque is an Aboriginal only area and
we can only go in to certain parts if we have a permit. At Ardiyooloo there is a fish hatchery, I got
to feed the Barra. When it snapped the
fish from my hand it scared me. That
night we went to Djardijin to go night fishing with Bundy who is an Aboriginal
elder in the community. It wasn’t normal
night fishing because we used spears instead of rods. I loved it.
When we first got there we had to light a fire so we could see it when
were lost and also to warm the spirits.
In the water we saw many different types of marine creatures including,
three different types of turtles, a few stingrays and two deadly stonefish,
there was also heaps of different varieties of fish. We caught heaps of blue bone and we ate some
on the beach after Bundy showed us how to cook it traditionally. The next
morning we got up to make new spears with Bundy again. We didn’t catch anything though and I missed
the only crab. We were allowed to keep
our spear too.
When we got back to Broome we went to a museum and there was
a lot about WW2 where all the Catalina planes got shot down in Roebuck
bay. Because the tide was so low we were
able to walk a long way out along the beach to see where the wrecks are. We watched a couple of documentaries on WW2
and the people of Broome, I found them quite interesting. The next day was ANZAC day so we went to the
dawn service. The dawn service was good
but afterwards I was very tired. That
night we had a big BBQ with all our friends because we were all leaving the
next morning except Chris and Josie because they stay there until
September. All us kids played for ages.
Now we’re driving for ages to get to Lake Argyle. There are so many cows on the road it’s
crazy, we even saw a caravan get head-butted by a cow.
