Taz 8

Last time we travelled around Australia I was in year 5. We got to a situation where we could have stayed at a place called Pussy Cat Flats with power, nice showers or to Edith Falls with no power, cold showers but waterfalls a short walk away. My family outvoted me and decided to stay at Edith Falls with no power. That night the coldest it got to was 32 degrees, without an aircon that meant no one got much sleep at all. I did not forgive them for the rest of the trip.

This time I got my way and Pussy Cat Flats is equally as weird as its name but it’s fair to say that we all loved it. We pulled up and had a group of Brumbies greet us. It wasn’t 32 degrees that night but I still made sure the air con was on, just for a little bit. After the van was set up mum and dad went to meet some locals at the bar and I went to make some horse friends. I can say that I have finally forgiven my family for not staying there 4 years ago.

In the morning we headed to Kakadu. Our stay at Kakadu was slightly disappointing this time because last time we got to watch dingos steal anything that they could fit in their mouths. We also didn’t get to see wild crocs feasting on barramundi at Cahills crossing this time either. We still did some walks to see Aboriginal artwork which was as amazing as I remembered.

Having spent close to 3 month on the road dad decided that it would be a good idea to stay in a house for our week in Darwin. He timed it pretty well because Ryley spent the first 3 days throwing up which would have been much worse in a caravan. He definitely picked the right house because they had a dog, Pippa who we took for walks and loved probably a little too much.

While Ry was sick Taj and I made the most of Darwins free water parks. Even if one of them gave me a really bad rash. I also tried to spend a bit of time down at the outdoor basketball court just down the road, fair to say I’ll need to do a bit of work when I get back.

We love our deck chair cinema at The Prom so we thought it would be a good idea to go to the one in Darwin. It’s fair to say that Paper Planes wouldn’t be high on my to watch list but I actually liked it, thanks to one of Taj’s mates recommendation.

If there’s a museum at a town we are guaranteed to be going to it. We happened to go to the Darwin museum at a time when they were displaying some of the local newspapers best front page headlines. It’s fair to say that none of the headlines would make it into The Herald Sun, I don’t think I have ever laughed in a museum before.
