After the
horrific cyclone has passed we moved on and went to Kalbarri. Kalbarri would be
been so much more beautiful if the sea and the river that were usually blue weren’t
red with mud. In saying that it was still stunning.
The
national park was incredible, the photos cannot even come close to how amazing
it actually looked. It was so nice that no one even complained about walking
6kms in 30 degree heat with no shade. I have never come across a walk that I
have enjoyed as much as I enjoyed that one.
Because we
have a bird nerd in the family and Kalbarri has a massive bird aviary we had to
dedicate an afternoon to birds. Birds are not my favourite animal in the world
but it was funny to watch them all zoom around the walk in aviary, flying
millimetres from our faces.
Next stop
was Monkey Mia, one of my favourite stops around Australia. I love dolphins
almost as much as I love dogs. Last time we stopped there was a 2 week old
calve so we weren’t allowed in the water unless we were invited. This time we
were able to go swimming with the dolphins if we were lucky. I am very happy to
say that we were lucky enough to swim with them quite a few times.
I was also
lucky enough to be able to feed 3 of them. It’s hard to believe that they are
actually wild dolphins, I still can’t believe that I have fed wild dolphins and
swam with them as well. It’s the only place in the whole of Australia where I
forget about my normal morning mood and am happy to be up at 7:45 watching
dolphins on the beach.
Much to my
sadness we did have to move on. On the way out we went to the shark bay
Aquarium. I’m not too keen on Aquariums but I could go to this one every single
day. The guide was very informative and I didn’t mind watching him walk us around
either. Maybe he’s the reason why I did actually pay attention. It was a very
nice guided tour for me.
After such
a good week mum has taken me to 2 places, in a row with no showers, toilets,
power and definitely no reception. My phone has also died and we broke the
phone charger so I have no phone, no shower, no toilet and no power. She did
promise me wifi tomorrow so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Those pictures of the national park are absolutely stunning, Taz! So pleased school hols are nearly here - Dan and I will be heading off for some hiking next week. I can't wait, and your pictures are making me even more impatient!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredibly precious experience you had with the dolphins at Monkey Mia - such beauty!
And very glad to read that something (or someone!) managed to get your attention on the aquarium visit too.
Keep having a fantastic time!
Love lots,
Aunty Liz and Dan xxx
