Taj 4

Jurien Bay – Carnarvon

When we went to the Pinnacles we played a game called where’s Tajee.  See if you can find me in the photos.

When we got to Jurien Bay we went fishing.  Ryley and I caught 256 Blowies over a two day period.  Blowies are a type of puffer fish, they have spikes and they blow themselves up like a balloon when you catch them.

Text Box: A Blowie

We had to stay at Jurien bay because there was a cyclone heading towards us, but I wasn’t scared about the cyclone.  Cyclone Olwyn ended up missing us so when the cyclone was meant to hit us I was out playing with the new friends that I’d made.  Their names were Jye, Brodie, Chloe and Tahj.  As soon as the coast was clear we headed to Kalbarri.

Kalbarri was a bit dirty because the cyclone had made a mess.  We went out to the Kalbarri National Park which was spectacular.  There were windows made of rocks but without glass in them.  We went for a long walk down the canyon right to the water, we had a little rest and then walked all the way back.

We also went to the bird sanctuary where lots of pretty birds were.  There was a cheeky Corella that kept trying to steal the string from my shorts, we started playing a tug of war, I sometimes won but he kept trying to pull me into his cage.  The Corella liked getting scratches on the chest.  There were lots of different types of birds.  We went into the walk through aviary where lots of different types of finches were flying along, I even found a flightless bird that I got to touch.  There were also Rainbow Macaws which had spectacular colours.  We even got to go in a maze of bird aviaries.  My favourite were the Port Lincoln and 28 Parrot.  I also liked the ones that looked like Ninja Turtles and ones that looked like they had a beard.

At our caravan park there were three Tawny Frog Mouths perched in a tree.  I just wanted to cuddle them after meeting the friendly one at the Adelaide Zoo.

When we got to Monkey Mia we went to the pier where I swam with a wild turtle and I got to touch it.  It was a juvenile green sea turtle, he was a carnivore but when he gets to 20years old he will turn into a herbivore eating only seagrass for the rest of his life.  Monkey Mia is so famous because you can feed wild dolphins.  Last time we were there Piper was just a baby so it was great to see that she was still alive.  I got picked from the crowd twice and got to feed Nicky and Surprise.

There were baby emus in the park and a mean person camped across the road from us hit them with a broom so they didn’t go over there again they just kept coming to our van.

They were very cute and curious.  We also went out in our boat to see another one of their main attractions the dugong.  We saw three dugongs, one turtle, a few sharks and one stingray.  We went right out to the pearl farm.

When we went fishing I caught a Cod, a Taylor and a Bream.  On our last day we went to the ocean aquarium where we saw a one-year-old Loggerhead turtle and a cute Green sea turtle.  Both turtles kept swimming into the walls.  They also had Moray eels and sea snakes which are two of my favourite types of marine life.  Did you know that if you get injected with sea snake venom you will be dead in about 10 minutes but they don’t inject venom unless they feel like their life is in danger.  There were also two cheeky stingrays jumping and splashing water everywhere because they wanted food.  At the very end of the tour they fed the little shark and lots of big Lemon, Nervous and Sambo sharks.

  1. You are getting to do SO MANY amazing things Taj! Love the pictures of the birds and your descriptions of them. So wish I got to see the Tawny Frog Mouths, last year there were a pair nesting near our house, it was so exciting when the babies were born - they are ridiculously fluffy! The colours of the other birds in your pictures are beautiful :)
This is a real wildlife adventure you Pentlands are on! So many gorgeous animals - love the pic of the baby emus, I've never seen baby ones before ...and certainly not close up like that! Magic!
We hope you keep enjoying yourself on your adventures, and all the great fishing you are doing too!
    Love lots,
