Whatsup!!!
Well we all
survived cyclone Olwyn, unfortunately, some of our friends (Sharon and David)
up in Carnarvon didn’t fare so well and our thoughts are with them. For us we
bunkered down in Jurien Bay and as the cyclone hit the coast it headed inland
and we got nothing more than a slight breeze.
Jurien Bay
was a nice place to see out the weather system, with the boys thoroughly
enjoying fishing of the pier and catching literally hundreds of blowfish.
Kristy, Taz and I enjoyed some strolls up and down the amazing coastline and having
a dip in the beautiful ocean water.
From Jurien
Bay we headed up to Kalbarri which certainly proved to be a highlight, even
though the river was very murky after the rains making fishing and swimming not
that viable. The caravan park was extremely peaceful with a great pool and
playground for the kids.
We went to the National Park and went on the most
spectacular walk I have ever done. We went past ‘Nature’s Window’ and down the
cliffs to the running river at the base of brilliant cliff faces.
It was with
great excited that our next destination was Monkey Mia and the wonderful
dolphin experiences. The dolphins, emus, turtles, sharks and dugongs again
showed have fantastic our wildlife is and the made the stay once again
memorable, unfortunately, the resort seems to have taken on a bit of a
transformation towards a bogan hunting fishing village. It was slightly embarrassing
chatting to some great international guess whilst our fellow Australians
persisted on swearing, drinking to all hours and generally being extremely
rude. One gent of about 70 at least, he might improve with age??? with an
extremely large GOCK as Ryley calls them, (this is when your gut overhangs your
male genitals) swore, chased emus with a broom, got extremely drunk and kept
everyone awake until 1am. In simple terms a great Australian Flog.
As we
continue to head north we hope to catch up with Sharon and David, however, we
will wait and see how they are recovering.
Ha! Love the term GOCK - excellent creativity with the English language Ry! :) A+!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the guy on the receiving end of the term was a right charmer ... bloody lucky the Pentlands were around to give the overseas visitors a more balanced picture of the Aussie population. I guess you'll find tossers everywhere, even on a dream trip.
I've already said it on Taz and Taj's posts, but the pictures are truly stunning. What a gorgeous country we live in -- and how brilliant that you and K are able to show so much of it to the kids. Fantastic stuff!
Keep travelling well Pentland crew - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Love lots,
Liz and Dan
